PROFILE

Bailey McBride, a longtime professor of English and former administrator at Oklahoma Christian University, became interested in The Christian Chronicle when he started college. In 1979 when John Beckloff, pioneer missionary to Nigeria, bought the Chronicle and moved it to Oklahoma City, McBride became part of an advisory board and eventually began working for the paper when Howard Norton was editor.

Since the first edition of The Christian Chronicle under the auspices of Oklahoma Christian, McBride has written a column for the paper. His first focus was on church growth, and for the past 20 years he has written the column “Insight” near the last page of the paper.

Bailey has been married to Joyce for 57 years; they have three children and 12 grandchildren (four by marriage). He has taught at the college level for most of his adult life. He is an English teacher who has specialized in 18th and 20th century British writers. He always taught, even when he was serving as Vice President of Academic Affairs. His last major project was directing and teaching in the Honors Program at Oklahoma Christian University.

The McBrides have been at the Memorial Road Church of Christ since 1966. Joyce has taught the Pre-K Bible class Sunday morning and Wednesday evening for 45 years. Bailey has been the education director, a deacon for missions, an elder and a regular Bible class teacher through these years. His great passion is mentoring younger men and women as they seek to teach and to serve.
