Collected Wisdom: Jeff Bennett, 1972 Olympian and Oklahoma Christian associate dean of students

Forty years ago, he was living the Olympic dream, competing for the U.S. in the decathlon at the 1972 Games in Munich. Bennett narrowly missed winning a medal, finishing a close fourth at those games, which were marred by tragedy when terrorists killed 11 Israeli athletes and coaches.

Lubbock Christian, Oklahoma Christian athletic programs moving to NCAA

We probably used up all the available basketball analogies when reporting earlier this year on the naming of new presidents at Lubbock Christian University and Oklahoma Christian University. So we won’t say something cheesy like “Nothing but net!” in sharing the news that the NCAA has approved bids by both those Christian universities to start the three-year membership process for entry into Division II.

On the campus of Oklahoma Christian University, 168 U.S. flags and 168 Oklahoma state flags are flying in memory of the victims of the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.

Oklahoma Christian University honors three former Oklahoma governors

Oklahoma Christian University paid tribute to three former Oklahoma governors and first ladies at a gala Thursday. The college held its 10th annual Associates Dinner on Thursday evening at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. During the event, the college presented the Lee Allan Smith Spirit of Oklahoma Award to Brad and Kim Henry, George and Donna Nigh and Frank and Cathy Keating.

Contraception mandate violates religious liberty, Oklahoma Christian University administrator tells House panel

WASHINGTON — Oklahoma Christian University would have to violate its religious dictates and provide emergency contraceptives under a federal rule requiring most health plans to cover contraception, an administrator from the school told a House committee on Thursday.

Once again, a Pepperdine administrator named to a university presidency

Is it something in the water in Malibu, Calif.? Once again, a Pepperdine University administrator has been hired as a university president, this time at Lubbock Christian in Texas. Tim Perrin, vice dean and professor of law at Pepperdine University School of Law, was introduced last week as president-elect of his Texas alma matter.

Updated with video: John deSteiguer named sixth president of Oklahoma Christian University

John deSteiguer, senior vice president for advancement at Oklahoma Christian University, will move into the president’s office this summer. Trustees for the 2,200-student Christian university chose deSteiguer today to succeed retiring President Mike O’Neal, who announced plans in 2010 to step down at the end of this academic year.
