L. Timothy Perrin, a 1984 graduate of Lubbock Christian University in Texas, has been tapped to serve as his alma mater’s sixth president. Perrin, vice dean and professor of law at Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu, Calif., will succeed Ken Jones, who served as Lubbock Christian president for 18 years before transitioning to the role of chancellor last year.

Oklahoma Christian University has named two finalists to succeed Mike O’Neal as the university’s president: Allison Garrett and John deSteiguer. Both are internal candidates. DeSteiguer is Oklahoma Christian’s senior vice president for advancement. Garrett is senior vice president for academic affairs.

Enrollment again hit record and near-record levels this fall at some colleges and universities associated with Churches of Christ. Harding University in Searcy, Ark., posted an all-time high enrollment for the 25th consecutive year, eclipsing 7,000 students. Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., topped 4,000 students, marking a fifth straight year of record enrollment.

Harding University President David B. Burks announced today that he will retire at the end of the 2012-13 academic year, after 26 years at the helm of the Searcy, Ark., university. Burks’ decision means three major universities associated with Churches of Christ — Harding, Oklahoma Christian and Lubbock Christian — are in the hunt for new presidents.

Howard Norton, veteran missionary to Brazil, longtime minister and current director of the Baxter Institute in Honduras, opened Quest, the annual lectureship at Oklahoma Christian University. In front of an overflowing Hardeman Auditorium, Norton spoke on the lectureship theme “I Believe.” His keynote address was titled “I Believe the New Testament Church is Our Model.”

Oklahoma Christian University is all set to dedicate its new indoor facility to a late New York Yankee who helped rebuild its baseball program. The school announced Friday that it would dedicate the new Bobby Murcer Indoor Training Facility — a structure that represents the last step in the program’s revival — on Sept. 23, honoring the former Yankees outfielder and broadcaster who died of brain cancer in 2008.

At Rochester College in Michigan, longtime head basketball coach Garth Pleasant is retiring. His successor has a familiar name. It’s his son Klint Pleasant, a former head coach at Abilene Christian University in Texas. Klint Pleasant isn’t just following his father on the basketball court. He also preaches at the Lake Orion Church of Christ, like his father did.
