Lipscomb University’s Health Sciences Simulation Center set to open

The Health Sciences Simulation Center, Home of the School of Nursing, is the next step in the expansion of the northern part of Lipscomb University’s campus. Development has begun on the $7 million, 24,800-square-foot building that will house the university’s more than six-year-old School of Nursing.

On the road with the <em>Chronicle:</em> Inspiring, informative stories in Arkansas, Tennessee

While not nearly as far from home as my Christian Chronicle colleague Erik Tryggestad (who you may have noticed has made his way to Nepal), I am on the reporting trail this week. My son Keaton, daughter Kendall and I left Oklahoma City on Sunday afternoon and hit the road for Arkansas and Tennessee.

At Lipscomb, Geena Davis battles media’s portrayal of women

The Tennessean reports:
Fighting gender stereotypes in today’s culture is an uphill battle for parents of young children, Academy Award-winning actor Geena Davis told a Nashville audience on Thursday.
Davis spoke at Lipscomb University to raise awareness about the portrayal of women and girls in the media.
Former FCC Commissioner Deborah Taylor Tate introduced Davis by saying that at the rate the United States is adding women to Congress, it will take 500 years to receive equality.

Once again, a Pepperdine administrator named to a university presidency

Is it something in the water in Malibu, Calif.? Once again, a Pepperdine University administrator has been hired as a university president, this time at Lubbock Christian in Texas. Tim Perrin, vice dean and professor of law at Pepperdine University School of Law, was introduced last week as president-elect of his Texas alma matter.

Lipscomb University’s adoption program is a slam-dunk

The Tennessean in Nashville reports:
Lipscomb University is helping families defray the cost of adoption while filling seats at men’s basketball games.
The university recently launched Adoption Rally, a program that gives 100 percent of single-game ticket revenues to families in the process of adopting, either locally or internationally. Nine families have been helped by the program, and $17,000 has been distributed.
The theory is simple. Families get their relatives, friends, church members and neighbors to attend the game. As attendance rises, so does the size of the check the adopting couple receives.

Enrollment records set — again — at some Christian universities

Enrollment again hit record and near-record levels this fall at some colleges and universities associated with Churches of Christ. Harding University in Searcy, Ark., posted an all-time high enrollment for the 25th consecutive year, eclipsing 7,000 students. Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., topped 4,000 students, marking a fifth straight year of record enrollment.

Lipscomb’s basketball team shoots hoops, lends a hand in Dominican Republic

The Bisons are in the Dominican Republic for an exhibition tour through August 16. But they’ll be doing more than playing basketball. The trip is also a mission to help the underprivileged in this Caribbean nation, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti.

Lipscomb University developing missions camp

It’s a different type of youth camp with stick houses and huts, simulating Third World villages and their culture. Lipscomb University will build a missions camp this fall in Dickson County, Tenn., to simulate a Guatemalan village, where university students and faculty are doing mission work.
