L. Timothy Perrin, a 1984 graduate of Lubbock Christian University in Texas, has been tapped to serve as his alma mater’s sixth president. Perrin, vice dean and professor of law at Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu, Calif., will succeed Ken Jones, who served as Lubbock Christian president for 18 years before transitioning to the role of chancellor last year.

Enrollment again hit record and near-record levels this fall at some colleges and universities associated with Churches of Christ. Harding University in Searcy, Ark., posted an all-time high enrollment for the 25th consecutive year, eclipsing 7,000 students. Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., topped 4,000 students, marking a fifth straight year of record enrollment.

Harding University President David B. Burks announced today that he will retire at the end of the 2012-13 academic year, after 26 years at the helm of the Searcy, Ark., university. Burks’ decision means three major universities associated with Churches of Christ — Harding, Oklahoma Christian and Lubbock Christian — are in the hunt for new presidents.

Dr. Neale Pryor, former Harding University vice president for academic affairs and Bible professor, died Sunday, Sept. 25, at the age of 75. His funeral was held Wednesday, Sept. 28, in the Benson Auditorium. Born in Mayfield, Ky., on Oct. 5, 1935, Pryor was a student at Freed-Hardeman College before transferring to Harding College during his junior year. An English major with a minor in Bible, Pryor went on to study at Vanderbilt University, Harding School of Theology and New Orleans Baptist Seminary.

The terrorist attacks on 9/11 resulted in nearly 3,000 death. As Americans all over the country prepare to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 911 here at home, one college is reaching out to those who died who were not American. Harding University in Searcy, Ark., started a unique program this year to collect flags from the 55 countries that represent the 381 non-American lives lost on 911.

Emily Wood is a junior at Harding University in Searcy, Ark. She’s also an intern at the Center for American Progress in Washington, D.C. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that Wood, 20, introduced former President Bill Clinton last week at the group’s seventh annual Campus Progress National Conference, a gathering of liberal student activists.
