Faulkner University officials announced a significant new technology initiative Wednesday that will put iPads into the hands of 1,000 traditional students this fall, among other items. The Eagle iAdvantage program will upgrade the university’s website and wireless Internet infrastructure and add more opportunities for interactive digital learning. Through the use of iPads, the university also hopes to make use of e-texts, with the ultimate goal of saving money through digital textbooks.

Enrollment again hit record and near-record levels this fall at some colleges and universities associated with Churches of Christ. Harding University in Searcy, Ark., posted an all-time high enrollment for the 25th consecutive year, eclipsing 7,000 students. Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., topped 4,000 students, marking a fifth straight year of record enrollment.

Former President George W. Bush said Thursday he is doing everything he can to “stay out of the limelight” in an attempt to regain his anonymity and also because he does not believe it is good for the nation to have a former president sharing his opinion about the current president. The nation’s 43rd president spoke to approximately 2,200 people at a fundraiser at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center that raised almost $1 million for scholarships at Faulkner University, which is associated with Churches of Christ.

While most older men talk a big game about their former athletic abilities, one 61-year-old man in Montgomery, Ala., is looking to walk the walk by becoming the oldest-ever college football player. Faulkner University officials say that after clearing up a few eligibility concerns, Alan Moore, a former college football player in the 1960s and Vietnam veteran, will take to the field once again this season as the Eagles’ newest team member.

A patch of ground less than an acre is serving up more than just fresh veggies on the Faulkner University campus in Montgomery, Ala. The campus garden is serving a multitude of functions that includes being an outdoor classroom. But its primary function is to provide fresh veggies to the low–income elderly at the adjacent retirement complex on the Faulkner campus.

Disaster relief organizations associated with Churches of Christ are preparing to respond to the powerful earthquake and tsunami in Japan that killed an estimated 1,300 people. Healing Hands International is accepting donations for Japan relief. WFR Relief Ministries of the White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ in West Monroe, La., also is exploring how Christians can serve the people of Japan. Oklahoma Christian University in Oklahoma City reports that eight long-term exchange students from Ibaraki Christian University had planned to return home Saturday.
