L. Timothy Perrin, a 1984 graduate of Lubbock Christian University in Texas, has been tapped to serve as his alma mater’s sixth president. Perrin, vice dean and professor of law at Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu, Calif., will succeed Ken Jones, who served as Lubbock Christian president for 18 years before transitioning to the role of chancellor last year.

Financially beleaguered Western Christian College and High School — a pillar of Churches of Christ in Canada — will close at the end of this academic year. Academic dean Bill Schwarz confirmed the news today in an e-mail to The Christian Chronicle. The Society that oversees the high school and college in Regina, Saskatchewan, voted Saturday to cease operations indefinitely in June, Schwarz said.

Faulkner University officials announced a significant new technology initiative Wednesday that will put iPads into the hands of 1,000 traditional students this fall, among other items. The Eagle iAdvantage program will upgrade the university’s website and wireless Internet infrastructure and add more opportunities for interactive digital learning. Through the use of iPads, the university also hopes to make use of e-texts, with the ultimate goal of saving money through digital textbooks.

Lubbock Christian University has invited two candidates to visit with the search committee seeking the university’s next president: L. Tim Perrin and Brian Starr. Perrin is vice dean and professor of law at Pepperdine University’s School of Law in Malibu, Calif. Starr is executive vice president and professor of economics and investments at Lubbock Christian.

Former President George W. Bush said Thursday he is doing everything he can to “stay out of the limelight” in an attempt to regain his anonymity and also because he does not believe it is good for the nation to have a former president sharing his opinion about the current president. The nation’s 43rd president spoke to approximately 2,200 people at a fundraiser at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center that raised almost $1 million for scholarships at Faulkner University, which is associated with Churches of Christ.

Ohio Valley University on Friday officially welcomed Harold Shank at its ninth president. “I was scared to death he was going to say no,” joked outgoing President Keith Stotts, who passed the presidency to Shank during an investiture ceremony Friday at the college. More than a dozen state and local representatives, politicians and educators spoke during the ceremony, welcoming Shank and his family to the college and to the Mid-Ohio Valley.

The new president of Ohio Valley University in Vienna, W.Va., believes the college has a bright future, but acknowledges serious and immediate hurdles lie ahead. Harold Shank described Ohio Valley’s financial situation as “precarious,” tempering the statement by saying he believed the situation is not insurmountable.
