The Christian Chronicle captured 13 national and state journalism awards in prizes announced Friday and Saturday nights. The Chronicle, an international newspaper for Churches of Christ, earned seven Associated Church Press “Best of the Christian Press” awards in competition against religious publications in the United States and Canada. Awards were presented Friday night at the ACP’s annual conference in Chicago. The Oklahoma City-based Chronicle received six awards from the Oklahoma pro chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, competing in the Division A category against The Oklahoman, the Tulsa World, The Associated Press, the Oklahoma Gazette and other newspapers with 25,000-and-up circulations.

A retired postal worker, 80-year-old Chal Burgess said he is not financially able to make many donations. However, Burgess recently sent a $10 check to The Christian Chronicle to help support the newspaper’s mission of informing, inspiring and uniting Churches of Christ. A member of the Clyde Church of Christ in Texas, the longtime Christian made the gift in memory of his late grandson, Army Staff Sgt. Bryan A. Burgess, who died March 29 while serving in Afghanistan.

OK, so maybe it’s not a major milestone.
But a month ago today, The Christian Chronicle launched this news blog — part of an effort to improve our online presence, better serve readers and fulfill our mission of “informing, inspiring and uniting Churches of Christ.”
This is our 60th post since the blog went live April 28.
Admittedly, my colleague Erik Tryggestad and I are learning as we go — both in terms of what to blog about and how to balance our time. You may have noticed that the pace of posts …

The Christian Chronicle won eight “Best of the Christian Press” national awards — five related to the yearlong “Global South” series — in an annual contest sponsored by the Associated Church Press. Winners were announced at an awards banquet at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City last night, and Erik Tryggestad and I were privileged to attend.
