Arkansas church feeds the hungry

Those who walk into the SAME Cafe in Searcy, Ark., get a belly-warming meal and soul-warming fellowship. The cafe, a ministry of the West Side Church of Christ in Searcy, provides a free hot meal to anyone who walks through the doors. The church is at 709 W. Arch Ave.

Help children’s home get $50,000 grant

Christian Chronicle readers helped Texas minister Tony Roach earn a shot at starring in his own reality show on Oprah Winfrey’s new network. Now, readers can support Timothy Hill Children’s Ranch’s bid to receive a $50,000 grant from Pepsi.The ranch is in the running for a grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project. To receive the grant, the ranch has to place in the top 10 for votes gathered through the Internet. In 10 days the ranch moved from 230th place to 100th. HopeWorks offers redemption in Memphis

Today the Memphis, Tenn., Commercial Appeal tells the stories of Mark Lewis and Marques Curry, two men with troubled pasts who found redemption through HopeWorks. The benevolence program, established in 1988, meets in the basement of the Midtown Church of Christ in Memphis. The Sycamore View Church of Christ and Holmes Road Church of Christ also are involved in the work. the nonprofit seeks “to serve the poor through outreach programs that develop individual worth, encourage personal responsibility and promote the honor and value of work,” according to HopeWorks website.

Dump Day nets $50k

Trey Morgan reports that Dump Day, a benefit to feed Hondurans who live at a garbage dump near Tegucigalpa, raised about $50,000, thanks in part to a matching gift from Bread for a Hungry World.
