Lipscomb University’s adoption program is a slam-dunk

The Tennessean in Nashville reports:
Lipscomb University is helping families defray the cost of adoption while filling seats at men’s basketball games.
The university recently launched Adoption Rally, a program that gives 100 percent of single-game ticket revenues to families in the process of adopting, either locally or internationally. Nine families have been helped by the program, and $17,000 has been distributed.
The theory is simple. Families get their relatives, friends, church members and neighbors to attend the game. As attendance rises, so does the size of the check the adopting couple receives.

Lipscomb’s basketball team shoots hoops, lends a hand in Dominican Republic

The Bisons are in the Dominican Republic for an exhibition tour through August 16. But they’ll be doing more than playing basketball. The trip is also a mission to help the underprivileged in this Caribbean nation, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti.

Pleasant surprise: Son follows in father’s footsteps in coaching, ministry

At Rochester College in Michigan, longtime head basketball coach Garth Pleasant is retiring. His successor has a familiar name. It’s his son Klint Pleasant, a former head coach at Abilene Christian University in Texas. Klint Pleasant isn’t just following his father on the basketball court. He also preaches at the Lake Orion Church of Christ, like his father did.

Ride ‘em, cowboy: Lubbock Christian hoops coach claims hefty roping prize

It’s taken John Copeland 30 years to amass 444 wins on the basketball court. In the span of two days this past weekend, he won six figures in the rodeo ring. Copeland, the longtime men’s basketball coach at Lubbock Christian University, won the No. 10 amateur division at the World Series of Team Roping on Saturday in Las Vegas. The title came with a check for $200,000, which he split with his partner.

Rochester College hoops coach reflects on milestone 700th win

Garth Pleasant recently earned his 700th career victory as men’s basketball coach at Rochester College, a school that plays home games at area high schools because it doesn’t have its own arena, the Detroit Free Press reported. Pleasant, a 2008 inductee in the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Hall of Fame, plans to retire after this season. He has been coaching at his alma mater, formerly Michigan Christian College, since 1979.
