Pleasant Valley Church of Christ in Van Buren, Ark., celebrates 100 years

Times may have changed over 100 years, but the work of the congregation of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ hasn’t changed.

Doug Cannedy, church elder, said a history of the church traces its origins to 1908, when Elizabeth Ellis of the Catcher community opened her home for gatherings until a small frame house in Catcher was purchased. He said the Church of Christ was one of the churches born from the Restoration Movement, and it must have been Ellis’ intention to have a Church of Christ congregation in her community.

“The church’s basis for existence was not to reform the church, but to restore it,” said Cannedy, who has been a member since 1978.

    This is great, but it will be even more encouraging if the mission, benevolence and evangelistic work this church is involved in had been published.
