Clothes fit the need in Tennessee church’s giveaway
The Tennessean newspaper in Nashville reports:
For Emily Valentine, the “Caring by Sharing” Clothing Giveaway at South Nashville’s Tusculum Church of Christ is a true godsend.
“My kids wouldn’t get school clothes if it wasn’t for this,” said Valentine, a stay-at-home mother of four who has been coming to the event for 11 years.
“We make a big deal out of it every year. My kids love it so much that they ask me what day it’s going to be held on and then they mark the days of the calendar leading up to it.”
In 15 years, the giveaway has grown from a series of tiny rooms to an auditorium full of donated clothes, some piles measuring 4 feet deep. About 700 people, including Valentine, three of her children and her sister-in-law, made their way through this year’s event, which was held Saturday.
