Body of missing missionary Bill Amason found

A search and rescue team recovered the body of Bill Amason on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 31, in Obabikon Bay in Sleeman, Ontario.
Amason, a longtime missionary to the Central American nation of Belize, went missing at Amason’s Obabikon, a resort on the bay operated by Amason’s family, on Aug. 26. See our earlier blog post for more details.
Amason’s son, Jared, sent the following message to friends and family through his Facebook page:
Thank you all for the prayers. The search and rescue team was successful in recovering him this afternoon. The Ontario Provincial Police officers in charge were wonderful. They were always willing to go above and beyond their duty to help the family.
There will be memorial services held in Ontario, Illinois, Florida and a memorial mission trip to Belize at a later date. Dad’s faith allows us to have not just a memorial service, but a celebration of faith and salvation. I will be sure to post specific times and dates for each of the services and details of the memorial mission trip.
As stated in a previous note, the family is asking people to not send floral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations to the “Bill Amason Memorial Fund for Missionary Work in Belize” are requested. Once the funds are raised, I will be organizing the Bill Amason Memorial Mission Trip to Belize. This trip will be a couple of years away, and will focus on a specific project. The funds raised by the donations will go toward a construction project in Belize.
Please continue the prayers and support, not only for the family but for all those who truly loved him. This is a difficult time for everyone, as dad meant a lot to many different people. We all feel very blessed to have known him, and many of us credit him as a great influence making us who we are today.
We will post more details as we get them, including dates and locations of memorial services and where memorial gifts may be sent.

So sorry for your loss. So glad for Bill’s reward. So looking forward to meeting him one day.
God bless this family. Our prayer in class tonight was that they would find peace.
Mr. Amason’s children went to Murray State University and were part of the University Christian Student Center, an on-campus ministry of the University Church of Christ in Murray, Ky. As an alumni of this school and ministry, I knew of his children’s work on campus. They were very active in the ministry while there and helped to organize a mission trip to Belize for the students. My prayers go out to them now.

I am sorry to hear about brother Amason’s death. His work will live on in the lives of the people he touched during his lifetime. We pray that the Lord will comfort his family and friends. May those he taught dedicate themselves to carrying forward his mission in this part of the world.
Met Bill at the bridge table here in Ocala, FL and his wife a couple of times. One could never hope to meet a nicer man – his untimely death is heartbreaking. My sympathy to all his family.
I was on several Medical Mission trips with Bill to Belize both in large groups and with Bill in the preaching school. He had a heart for the people of Belize and he will certainly be missed for the work he did in that country.

am very sorry to learn about the departure of brother Bill whom I only knew through one of our brothers(Sipho Nkala) here in Zimbabwe. May the Lord with the whole family as well as the mission.
