The Abilene Reporter-News in Texas reports:

Colt McCoy came home (July 5).

The former Jim Ned and University of Texas standout and current Cleveland Browns starting quarterback was at Abilene Christian University’s Wally Bullington Practice Facility for the first day of his two-day youth football camp.

McCoy wowed the gathering of more than 100 as he and his staff — including his father and former Graham head coach, Brad, and younger brother, Case — put the campers through drills to sharpen their football skills.

And McCoy was an active participant, throwing and catching passes as well as playing defensive back when called upon. He also took the time to pose for a picture with each of the campers.

The first time I saw Colt, he was dribbling a basketball up and down the court during halftime of one of his Grandfather’s games at ACU. Burl McCoy was that coach and I was one of the referees! I asked Coach McCoy who the kid was out there on the court (he obviously had a lot of athletic ability!) and Burl, smiling and just about busting his buttons, said, “That’s my Grandson, Colt!” Coach McCoy was one of the classiest coaches for whom I officiated during my 28 year career and his Grandson shows to be the same kind of guy! Congrats and thanks, Colt!

Congratulations to Burl on his grandson’s achievements. Burl was the one that brought my daughter, Melinda Armstrong, to ACU and was her coach her freshman year.
