TEXTUAL

Randall C. Bailey. Exodus, NIV Commentary.

Faulkner University Bible professor Randall Bailey’s commentary on the Book of Exodus focuses on how the exodus of Israel becomes foundational not only for Israelite theology, but also for the work of Christ’s redemption. The volume also shows how the tabernacle texts find expression in New Testament worship.

FICTION

Deborah Strickland. Mary Reeder, Prairie Girl.

Deborah Strickland, a fourth-grade teacher at Abilene Christian Schools in Texas, takes up the story of a young girl in the early 1900s who is taken in by relatives after the death of her mother.

The adventure continues as the girl’s family moves to the vacant, windswept territory of New Mexico.

Charcoal illustrations in the book are by artist Lori Thornton.

MISSION

Robert Blair. The Great Omission: Amazing Ways the Church Muddles the Message: How to Get it Right and Tell it Right.

After 28 years of preaching for the Hollywood, Calif., church, Robert Blair examines the nature of the church’s message. Rather than attempt to change public policy on issues such as abortion and gay rights, he argues, the message should focus on the simple gospel of Jesus.

EVANGELISM

Fred Peatross. Missio Dei: In the Crisis of Christianity.

Fred Peatross, an editor for New Wineskins magazine, contributes to the contemporary discussion about the church’s mission by proposing new ways to communicate the ancient gospel to the emerging culture.

He defines evangelism not as a program of the church, but as a way of living in the world. The book champions unconventional ways of reaching people.
