Voices: How do you celebrate Thanksgiving?
Asked by Erik Tryggestad, assistant managing editor, of missionaries from the United States who spend Thanksgiving in foreign countries. We usually gather with other missionaries or any other Americans. Everyone signs up to bring their favorite family dish. We enjoy singing out of English hymn books — something we don’t usually get to do.

Brianna Carroll, Dresden, Germany

One team that visits each year is from Greater Atlanta Christian School. The group prepares and serves Thanksgiving dinner for our children and workers. This effort teaches our orphans about their neighbor to the north.

Gary Gardner, Cozumel, Mexico

We have a special worship service, where people witness about how God has acted in their lives. It is coupled with “Blessed to be a Blessing” — a special Sunday when everyone brings groceries to be handed out to the needy.

Phyllis Gonçalves, Itu, Brazil

We come together for a day of fellowship, enjoying a great meal together. Sometimes we spend the time after the meal singing.
Other times we just enjoy the company of our fellow brothers and sisters.
