Statue dedicated at ACU's 100th birthday celebration
Artist Jack Maxwell, chairman of art and design at Abilene Christian University, speaks Sept. 9 at the dedication of his Jacob’s Dream sculpture during the Texas university’s Centennial Birthday Celebration. Part of the sculpture can be seen in the background. The statue was presented in honor of Grace L. Woodward and her gift to ACU. The nearly 40-foot bronze sculpture depicts the biblical account of Jacob’s dream. Grace Woodward’s son, Bob, and his wife attended the ceremony. After the dedication, many moved to the Onstead-Packer Biblical Studies Building to meet and get their favorite ACU alumni to sign their copy of ACU Century. A giant birthday cake, a children’s carnival and a concert by Christian rock band Caedmon’s Call also highlighted the centennial celebration.
