One of the great stories from the Old Testament is the account of Hannah and her desire for a son. She prays constantly and consistently for a child: she prays so fervently that Eli accuses her of being drunken. When her prayers are answered and she gives birth to Samuel, Hannahs longing is replaced with joy and praise. She loves and nurtures Samuel until he is old enough to wean, and then she follows through with her commitment and takes the boy to Eli for dedication to the Lords service.
Gratitude and faithfulness to commitments are very important characteristics in human beings. Those qualities make a great difference in all human relations, even as they are important to mankinds relation to God. Spiritually minded people throughout the Bible consistently acknowledge Gods gifts and blessing. David stands out for his many songs of thanksgiving. The gospels give a glimpse of Jesus gratitude to his father and to people who aid or serve him.
The Christian Chronicle staff has been extremely blessed. We all have had good health during the past 15 months, and God has supported our souls in a multitude of ways. We cannot find words to express our love and appreciation for all God has done.
The Christian Chronicle staff is also grateful for our subscribers who read our work, reflect on the stories and ideas, write or call with responses, share information we should be reporting, and give to our appeals. The year-end appeal prompted 4,500 readers to respond the help us balance our budget. The gifts range from $20 to $5,000. These 4,500 readers make it possible for us to meet rising costs for producing and printing 100,000 papers each month.
