Book honors life of longtime librarian, educator
During her 21 years as librarian at Harding University Graduate School
of Religion, Annie May Alston Lewis taught hundreds of ministers how to
perform rigorous research through her library skills class — a course
she developed.
She also led her Sunday morning women’s class for more than 30 years at the Church of Christ at White Station in Memphis.
More than three years after her death, Harding offers selections from Lewis’ Bible classes in “Still Living by Faith: A Collection of Lectures.”
Compiled and edited by Jean Lewis Saunders and Don L. Meredith, the volume brings together the many threads of Lewis’ teaching at church and women’s programs over 40 years, Saunders writes in the introduction.
Resource Publications of Searcy, Ark., published the volume.
The book opens with a quote from Lewis: “The reason for Bible study is to get to know God — to see him more clearly and to love him more dearly.
“Our lives are manifestations of what we think about God.”
The book is available for a contribution of $25 or more to the Annie May Alston Lewis Endowed Scholarship Fund at Harding Graduate School.
