I compliment Bobby Ross Jr. and the Chronicle on what I considered a very objective article on Pepperdine University in the September issue.

I have attended 20 consecutive Bible lectures at Pepperdine and have had numerous visits with board members, administrators, faculty and students.   I wholeheartedly believe that these brothers and sisters are doing the Lord’s work in a very commendable manner in a very challenging environment.

I hear many individuals outside our brotherhood comment on Pepperdine and it is always very positive. Lord willing, I plan to attend at least the next 20 lectureships and continue to verbally and financially support this great institution.

Seniors add stability to church

In regard to this story, I served a small church comprised mostly of young families — 60 members with 35 children — and we found kingdom work to be a struggle on two levels.

First, we didn’t have the direction and stability that older members give us. Second, many of our members
with young families found time for kingdom work to be a struggle.

I believe we were a good church and a powerful force for Christ in our community, but we sure could have used some older folks! Thank God for the senior saints.

My first husband and I were missionaries in South Africa. I am now in assisted living. I am 89 and blessed to be able to teach a Bible study group here each week. Perhaps this may encourage other seniors to continue to do what they can.
