Church members who travel to Beijing for the 2008 Olympics have a place to worship — thanks to an American mission and the Chinese government.

The congregation, dubbed the “Beijing Church of Christ,” will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays, Aug. 3-24 in the Huandao Boya Hotel, 2 W Wan Shou Rd. Aubrey Johnson, minister for the Peachtree City, Ga., church, will preach Aug. 3 and 10. Bo Pugh, the church’s youth minister, will preach Aug. 17 and 24. The service is open to holders of passports from outside China.

The Georgia congregation sponsors China Mission, an organization that conducts medical missions and disaster relief and cares for orphans and the elderly in China.

Church members approached China’s communist government about conducting worship services for visitors during the Olympics, and the government approved it.

Workers coordinating the services asked church members around the globe to participate in an international prayer of thanksgiving on Aug. 3, the day of the first church service.
