MILFORD

The first service of a new congregation in Milford was May 4, said Charles Cook of Sunset International Bible Institute. The Randall Adams family settled in Milford in April following the completion of studies at SIBI, Cook said.

“It was a beautiful day in Milford, and we believe that God’s name was lifted high today. Sixteen souls attended ...,” Adams reported of the first meeting.

MARYLAND
WESTMINSTER

p05_Grimm_sThe Westminister church hosted humanitarian leader Anglian Bishop Nathaniel Garang of Sudan April 19. Garang, known as the bishop of Sudan’s “Lost Boys” spoke of the persecution of followers of Christ by the Islamic government of Sudan. The event was co-sponsored by the congregation and the local chapter of the NAACP.

Sudan’s “Lost Boys” are parishioners of Garangs. As children they fled their villeged when all adults were killed by the government. Many now live in the United States.

HARTLAND

A new congregation, the Livingston Church of Christ, began worship in the Hartland senior citizens center April 6. For information contact Jack Burcham at (517) 545-1546.

MISSISSIPPPI
LAMBERT

The Lambert church is reaching its community with monthly outreach programs on Saturdays, said Buddy Kiihnl,spokesman. The programs are attended primarily by children and teenagers.

The April program on drug awarenessincluded a talk by a representative of the state narcotics bureau. Other programs have been on “Your Future” and “Learning to Love Myself.”

The Lambert church, which began in 1991, has about 50 members and meets in a renovated building it owns. William Crawford is minister.

OKLAHOMA CITY


The Quail Springs church hosted a luncheon for Single Mothers May 7 with Oklahoma Lieutenant Governor Mary Fallin as speaker.

The event was the week before Mother’s Day, said Wyatt Feno, singles minister. Entertainment and door prizes were part of the program. Fifty of the 60 women attending had no church ties, Fenno said.

VIRGINIA
COLONIAL HEIGHTS

The Cameron Avenue church, Colonial Heights, Va., marked its 50th anniversary by meeting under an historic cucumber magnolia tree at its original meeting site at the former headquarters of General Robert E. Lee, said Audrey Dailey, spokeswoman.

The 150-member congregation reflected on its life at a gathering under the tree, heard a Sunday message by John Mark Hicks and planned activities throughout 2003, Mark Dailey, minister, said.

The “cucumber tree,” as the congregation calls it, is more than 200 years old. In its early years, the church met under the tree in the summer. The tree’s name comes from its cucumber-like fruit.

New Life Behavior Ministries plans to have its curriculum online as early as June, said Buck Griffith, president. After June 1 students may enroll online. HOUSTON

Members of the Channelview church sent gifts, including beauty products from member Sonja Krause, for distribution to women in Philippine churches, said Charles Smith, Lubbock. Smith and his wife Mary Ann delivered the gifts during a missionary trip in late April. Charles Smith taught workshops and Bible seminars at schools in Angeles City, Olongapo City and Naga City.
