In response to growth in childrens ministries in churches of Christ, Abilene Christian University, Abilene, Texas, will launch a new major, Ministry to Children and Families, this fall. The major will be interdisciplinary, with students taking courses in psychology, sociology and family and consumer sciences in addition to biblical studies, school officials said.
CRC revives Spirit of America dinner

About 200 people attended the Spirit of America Dinner April 26 at Crowleys Ridge College, Paragould, Ark. Greene County native E. Claude Gardner (left), president emeritus of Freed-Hardeman University, Henderson, Tenn., and chancellor of CRC, was the guest speaker. The school presented awards of service to local law enforcement, fire departments and rescue squads. 'The Spirit of America series was initiated in 1979 to advance CRC, our community and our country,' according to CRC board member Wendell Eubanks of Paragould. The series was discontinued after 1992, but considering the events of Sept. 11, Eubanks and school president Arvil Hill decided to reinstate the banquet.
Community prays for Rush after stroke
York College
The campus community of York College, York, Neb., spent much of April and May in prayer for campus minister Mike Rush (left) who suffered a stroke in his office April 16. Administrators canceled chapel the next day for a prayer service and students signed up for a 24-hour prayer vigil. The East Hill church, York, set up a fund to help with medical expenses.
