Mark Gasaway, Atlanta, a husband and father of two who is deaf and blind, the Distinguished Toastmaster Award for achieving the highest level in communication and leadership in Toastmasters International. Mark was also appointed to the Governors Council for Independent Living in the state of Georgia.
NAMED: Fred Gray, Montgomery, Ala., author and civil rights attorney, as president of the Alabama Bar Association. Gray is the first African-American appointed to this position.
